Force fat people to work out and ban fast food, but simultaneously hand out cigarettes to schoolkids. I think this is a fair balance. Landwhales pose a vastly disproportionate burden to our healthcare system, but people who die young of lung cancer actually save us money in the long run.

Lung cancer theory was problematic. Most people dying early to lung cancer are males, lots of them the breadwinner in the family and the ones who pay tax. Nowadays, kids need to become almost 30y old to take care if themselves and jobs start to pay well when you're promoted and in your 4ties.

Highest incidence and mortality rates in the 60+ brackets and basically negligible before 45
Its just Logan's Run except a more practical cutoff.

Sin taxes should extend to fast food, snacks, and soft drinks.

Why did the ride have a limit on weight though? Is it because they can't fit all that fat into one seat?

I agree. The sugar industry is doing a tremendous amount of damage to the US (as well as other western countries, UK, Ireland, etc).

It's pretty fucked up that you could get a pack of Twinkies or other processed sugar for like 1-2 bucks which pack a few thousand calories while a pack of apples or other fruits with much smaller servings are 2x or 3x in price.

Wouldn't it be cool if we raised the prices on the processed sugar goods by 2x by taxing them and then use all of those funds to subsidize healthy foods like fruits and vegetables? I'm not sure why more effort is not being put into fine tuning these type of things.

Good idea, and to add to it, I think we can also re-configure supermarkets' layouts, and put healthy food like veggies and fruits on the outside, or in a place that's more prominent and accessible. And keep junk tucked away deep inside the store so that its harder for people to find. The government of Israel does this to keep their population healthy.

obesity is definitely one of the largest issues facing americans, #1 in terms of preventable health issues for sure.

in terms of the comparison, simply put the number of unhealthy thin people vs the number of unhealthy obese people in america is not at all comparable, the psychological part is too subjective to dissect

I said healthy in quotations because you can be considered a healthy weight and still be suffering from very unhealthy eating habits due to the stigma surrounding what a healthy lifestyle is

most people don't even realize they might be hurting their body because there is zero regulation on the "better living, healthy eating" content thats created online

we can see when someone is fat, and make an easy assumption that they are unhealthy, while that isn't always true(yes some people who appear "overweight" can be totally fine health wise). the same isn't true for people who outwardly look fine weight wise

some guy who just posted a pic of themselves ripped might be considered in great health, he's working out and doing great right? you can easily google search "how to cut and bulk" and you will find alot of holes in that theory very quickly

the same thing applies to most "fat burning" stuff that gets thrown in the average persons face, a huge majority of that doesn't actually help people find healthy ways to achieve realistic goals, and there is no filter on what kind of content people consume in that regard

you can't measure it, or compare it. the stigma currently makes that impossible
