Isn't "out of wedlock" = not married? A committed relationship can exist outside of/prior to marriage, no? I genuinely don't bring this up as snarky semantics. Just genuinely curious if you're asking about having a kid outside of the institution of "marriage" v. having a kid outside of a committed relationship?

I'm learning something about the phrase "out of wedlock" here.

Yes.
Yes.
Im asking about having kids without planning (albeit optimistically) to make a life long commitment to someone.

Thought wedlock also included Common Law relationships. Maybe not. I dunno. I just take it as a serious longstanding relationship. The peramaters for that obviously are not defined. Together 3+ years I'd say is a decent cutoff.

Subject to opinion though.

Dems also want to outlaw rape and murder. Is that also fascism? :P

those things are already outlawed! any response other than a typical strawman?

seriously, why dont we just ban conservatives from getting abortions and getting divorced?

would support that outside of certain conditions

such as for divorce if someone is being beaten/abused/cheated on etc

So you are basically advocating for the elimination of no fault divorce.

That is the conservative take.

The concept of marriage is an old one and it worked for goat farmers who had an average life span of 33 years. When women were essentially chattels and were nothing but helpless child bearing slaves.
So being married for around 10-20 years wasn't so bad.

Today people live much longer women have choices and a say, the idea of being locked in a binding contract for the rest of your life doesn't appeal to younger people. Hense why the number of marriages has dropped.
Overall we are more liberal as a society when it comes to marriage I wouldn't be surprised if polygomy makes a comeback that's when shit gets real weird especially when kids are involved.

I personally see marriage as a business contract. So I would draft up a 5-10 year marriage term and renew the vows every term. If I wanted to have kids I would write down a contingency plan for several situations and put protocols in place to see that the kid doesn't have to go through a messy break up. But then again I personally don't want any kids or marriage so.

There is nothing inherently wrong with no fault divorce. Sometimes, people made a mistake when they were young. Or they were a genuinly great fit for one another decades ago, but then grew apart as they saw their priorities and outlook on life diverge over the years. There is neither a moral argument to make, nor is it for the better of society at-large, if people are being trapped in toxic or detrimental relationships which make them unhappy.

What is a problem, however, is when the rules surrounding alimony, custody and child support can easily ruin a man if it comes to a divoce. The balance of power in relationships is shifted in an unhealthy way when the female side can threaten to leave her husband and be financially rewarded for it while he has to fear ruin or at least significant social decline.
