You aren't "taking what politicians say with a grain of salt", you're selectively interpreting what one specific politician says in a way that is more favorable to your cause.

Perhaps I'm overly charitable in my interpretation of Trump's motives but... I think that actually stealing the election was never really the goal of Trump's antics. Imho, the plan was always to muddy the waters enough so that he can lose the election while saving face with his base and while protecting his nimbus as a "winner".
Most sensible people see it this way. It's a common-sense take which some refuse to accept instead opt for making everything of biblical proportions.
