I mean when I heard Trump say things like 'we're going to have the best deals', 'we're going to do xyz ' i take that with a grain of salt because I'm mature enough to know that politicians love to overpromise and 98% it's just upselling what they will or can do.

And when he actively subverts the public's confidence in infectious disease experts during a pandemic, forwards conspiracy theories about our elections being hacked by a massive fraud ring, and really anything else, you actively ignore the real world effects.

You aren't "taking what politicians say with a grain of salt", you're selectively interpreting what one specific politician says in a way that is more favorable to your cause.

Sounds like a concession in only the loosest sense.

We have real concessions to compare against. I don't trust Trump to ever actually concede or admit he lost.

Na dude he def conceded.

Perhaps I'm overly charitable in my interpretation of Trump's motives but... I think that actually stealing the election was never really the goal of Trump's antics. Imho, the plan was always to muddy the waters enough so that he can lose the election while saving face with his base and while protecting his nimbus as a "winner".

>2020:Elections being hacked is impossible, Trump is furthering conspiracy theories!

Most sensible people see it this way. It's a common-sense take which some refuse to accept instead opt for making everything of biblical proportions.

The head of GSA said the decision to move forward was hers... but even if Trump gave the go ahead, that's not conceding the election.

It's simply a fact that Trump has tried to steal the election. For the millionth time, I don't know why you come here to discuss topics that you are completely uninformed on.

It's an opinion founded on an incredibly loose definition of the verb "to steal".

He has not tried to "steal" in any literal sense, because while launching poorly constructed lawsuits might be embarrassing, it's obviously not illegal. Has he tried to in a figurative sense? That's probably an argument you should make.

I do so love when you know you've lost, because you always start assuming that the person you're talking to has only ever taken the most radical position on the subject.

Asking for recounts in states where the outcome was decided by literally tens of thousands of votes out of millions or filing lawsuits is within the bounds of democracy and should be expected.

He conceded as soon as Georgia and Michigan votes were certified, so why is that so outrageous? I mean we knew for months before the election that it might take us weeks to know who won and that's exactly what happened when the dust settled. So you sound mighty dumb for saying he and his followers tried stealing the election when in reality exactly what we expected to happen happened.

Lol

Trump tried to convince the Michigan GOP to appoint electors for him anyway. That's an incredible conflict of interest and wars have been started over less. I don't know what 3rd world shithole you crawled out of, but that's extremely fucked up here in the states. The only reason people aren't freaking out is because Trump is so fucking incompetent that he wouldn't be able to pull this off.

The sad thing is, a lot of Trump supporters are so stupid that they actually BELIEVE that Trump won. They are called cultists for a reason.

Democrats publicly mused about convincing electors to vote against Trump in 2016. And back in 2005, Demorats threw a fit and challenged the certification of Ohio's electoral votes because they couldnt cope with Dubya's reelection:

Trump's antics are clearly shitty, going nowhere, and I wish he'd stop them - but they're not as unique or norm-defying as you make them out to be.

Well, one is the President of the United States who was impeached for abuse of power. He and his legal team have tried to delegitimize this election for months. 2016 was a bunch of sour grapes with no teeth behind them (many Democrats such as Diane Feinstein wished Trump well) and 2004 was a publicity stunt designed to focus on disenfranchisement. If you can't tell that one is significantly worse than the other, I can't help you.
