My son is an exception to this. He thrives in the classroom, and falls way behind from home.
Pretty sure most studies validate in class learning. In addition to poorer grades on average there is less observation by mandatory reporters so unreported child abuse goes up and children in those situations or from places where food scarcity like some places in rural America it cuts off access to important nutrition programs. I'm pretty sure studies are showing self-harm and suicidality increasing with the loss of socialization and access to a peer group. I'm skeptical about it for the many reasons I am skeptical to home schooling providing a quality education compared to direct access to professionals tending to you.

and teachers themselves who got comfortable chilling at home, throwing some material at the schoolkids real quick, while taking care of their own (if they have any)
university folks have also become nice and comfy at home
you make good points, i would still add the social component here
until a certain age its important to be around other kids regularly, there is a reason why mental illness has skyrocketed among kids
As for university, I'm a field instructor for a couple schools and I actually have to express that all the hours will have to be on-site.
