Carbon and oxygen are not pollution and never have been.

That's pretty silly. There are tons of chemicals that are only composed of carbon oxygen and hydrogen that you would absolutely think are pollutants.

Absolutely, hormones like ethene are specifically taken in to trigger ripening of fruit.

Something being natural or used by plants has never been a criteria for whether or not it's polluting

Nah, I don't "worship" anything. I am highly critical of every piece of science I read. No scientist uncritically accepts the conclusions of other scientists. Thats why we have things like peer review and replication studies.

My PI during graduate school would regularly present papers from big labs just to shit on them and point out how even big notable labs can produce garbage.
