Can we all appreciate for a minute what this says about Omicron and the (in)effectiveness of mask mandates, lockdowns and other efforts in NYC?
Infections have skyrocketed to ludicrous numbers that are several times larger than the initial spike that killed so many people. And yet, deaths "associated" with covid have only inched up the tiniest amount, which is easily explained as being a non-causal relationship, the result of counting anyone who dies for any reason with a covid positive case in the past 90 days as 'associated' with covid. And we can see that reflected in the excess death graph from all causes per the CDC's statistics: no statistically significant excess deaths expected during these past few weeks of astronomically climbing rate of infections.

The social restrictions and lockdown measures and freedoms violated by the NYC regulations have done abso-fucking-lutely nothing to stop the spread. It could not possibly be any less effective. At this point, we can wonder if these measures actually somehow accelerated the spread, because even accounting for the increased contagiousness of omicron its a wonder how NYC is spreading so much wildly faster than other cities. And it all appears to be for naught. A disease which is probably less deadly than the common cold, especially if you look per case. And likely will have a significant reduction in death rates in coming months than would happen without it, due to immune response boosted against the more deadly strains of covid.

you are aware there's no lockdowns in NYC currently right? Is your take NYC should have let delta run rampant to boost natural immunity in the face of a potential omicron?

Everyone age 5-11 must provide proof of at least one vaccine dose- at the door- to be allowed to enter a restaurant, catering hall, bar, nightclub, coffee shop, fast food restaurant, grocery store with dining indoors, gym, pool, studio, theater, concert venue, museum, zoo, aquarium, stadium, exhibition hall, bowling alley, arcade, strip club or arena. Everyone age 12 and above must provide proof of at least two vaccine doses- at the door- to be allowed in. Everyone working at those places must also do the same. Everyone aged 18+ is required to not only show vaccination proof but also identification so their movements can be tracked by authorities. All other indoor public places which are not required to force vaccine requirements must require masks for everyone age 2 and older.

Of course, this makes dick all sense using even the most basic understanding of the virus, because vaccinations are very clearly not mitigating the spread of covid of any kind, and thus requiring a mask mandate but-for a vaccine mandate is nonsensical, nevermind that masks are also ineffective.

Wow tyranny. How difficult life must be for those New Yorkers. Anti-vaxxers are so fucking dramatic lol. No one is tracking you based on your id and vax card. My city has had a vaccine mandate for since the Spring and its literally not a big deal to show your vaccine card and ID to the bouncer/security.

How casual are we supposed to be about throwing away our most fundamental liberties and welcoming authoritarian repression? You have to 'show your papers' to get a beer now, and its just being dramatic to point that out?
And they have an entire department set up for the specific purpose of tracking people based on their id and vax card. Don't worry about all the rest of your personal information, they'll call you. I'm especially fond of how the NYC contact tracing program's FAQ actually points out in an effort to ward off scammer imitations, as if its reassuring, that 'we will never ask for your personal information, we already know it'. Immediately followed by 'A contact tracer may also visit you at home'.

Sure, nothing dystopian about all that. Nothing dramatic going on. Its not like the NYAG is literally sending storm troopers with battering rams to the homes of journalists in the middle of the night to seize their confidential materials and devices. I mean, if that happened, even the ACLU might be obligated to put out a single tweet saying that they're mildly irritated by it, before returning to spamming about transvagina acceptance and free healthcare for illegal aliens.

Sounds the like feverdream of a madman. Why not let New Yorkers decide for themselves. They seem fine with it. I'm fine with my cities vaccination requirements. I haven't seen anyone who isn't.

From what I've read New York is so amenable to these regulations because of how hard they were hit early on. Pretty much everybody knows somebody who died in the first wave. There's no denialism there.
