That means Trump's approval is worse. Presidents always get a bump after they leave, and are worse when they are in the spotlight.

A 39/37 split means Trump's boost barely gets him over Biden. Not numbers to brag about to anybody who knows what they're doing.


Obligatory Biden deserves his shitty rating. He's been a pretty miserable failure with his first year. Manchin has not only cucked Biden, but dragged his nuts across his face.

That means Trump's approval is better. Democrats always get a bump after they enter the spotlight due to false positive coverage from the DNC propaganda wing (CNN, MSNBC etc).

A 39/37 split means Trump's boost without the stream of astro-turfed negative coverage in reality gets him handily over Biden. Not the analysis to convince anybody who knows what they're doing.

The stat isn't even comparing apples to apples. It's comparing the percentage of respondents saying that Trump is protecting (or trying to protect) democracy with Biden's approval rating. Generally speaking, we can assume that there would be a sizeable slice of the electorate that does not approve of the job Biden is doing, but would still vote for him (again) in a rematch against Trump. Disapproving of Biden does not rule out the possibility that the same respondent has an even lower opinion of Trump.

These numbers essentially represent an absolute floor for the support of both guys, but don't tell us all that much about the stance of the decisive middle ~20-30% of the electorate.

Most politicians gain large support after winning that takes a few years to subside due to bandwagoning in polling, and the inverse is also true about big fat losers like Trump who get shamed by their loss, people who would have otherwise said they support Trump might turn around and disregard him now that he's lost. Even if you compared favorability ratings its still apples to oranges
