Flat amounts are only indicators by following their direction, some countries are not counting co-morbidity, homes deaths, etc Or are simply lying.

- Base amount of sick people varies from luck to how touristic/cosmopolitan is the country.
- Tests are not very useful when the country is entering in critical state of being close to saturate ICU. How responsible if there's not enough tests ?
- Can you condemn Latin people because they appreciate handshakes and kisses so the virus spread more quickly at the start of the crisis ?

The only thing that makes a country looks bad during a pandemic is the attitude of its president/gov and if its people are finally able to follow some rules.

it really speaks for itself that the main defence of cultists has become: if we can find just one country that is worse in any given metric or aspect of handling this crisis, that means the cult leader can be absolved from any charges of incompetence and lack of leadership. what a ridiculously low bar, and dishonest framing of the issue.

not only because two wrongs obviously don't make a right, but also because most of those 'arguments' require you to jump through several hoops in order to support the point that others failed in a similar fashion way (like completely ignoring the resources / experts available, the time of their warning in relation to the developments worldwide and domestically, the general approach towards what scientists suggested in the context of this crisis)... the whole world can see how uniquely incompetent, ignorant, and flippant trump was and still is (compared to america's peer countries - the likes of china, russia, brazil, north korea, iran... are ofc even worse) regarding this issue, but still some hacks try to argue those facts away. just crazy...

Like I said, it wasnt just one random country that dealt with the mask issue as badly as the US did unter Trump, it was quite literally the entire Western world.

If you want to criticize Trump for something that his country failed in unique fashion, you should criticize the debacle of rejecting the WHO-approved tests and going for self-developed test kits instead - which then flat out didnt work.
This mistake was something really embarrassing, and harmful because it delayed testing in the US by about a month compared to the rest of the industrialized world.

I do criticize Trump's handling of the coronavirus whenever I consider it appropriate, not just in this thread but also elsewhere:

Someone get covid and dies from blood clot ( caused by the virus) , some countries will count it as covid death while some others will count it as cardiovascular death.

Democrats unveiled their 1800 page bill 3 days ago without any input from Republicans and probably 90%+ of the Democratic caucus, showed up to the Capitol today and voted on the bill with almost zero deliberations and I'm guessing no representatives actually read the bill. Vote passed along party lines.

Buried deep in those 1800 pages are gems like "Repeals the SALT deduction cap for the next 2 years", a tax cut that would mostly apply to only the richest 1% of Americans and is the most regressive tax cut proposed- it gives 98% of its benefit to the top 20%, and 56% to the top 1%.

Getting rid of the excessive SALT deductions was such a brilliant move. These deductions allowed high tax high cost of living (read: blue) states to reduce the tax burden on their people at the expense of the federal budget. It meant that blue state residents were enjoying the full benefit of their state services and entitlements without bearing the full burden necessary to finance them, which made the "blue state model" appear more attractive than it objectively is.
