literally no one on the left claims crt doesn't exist, lol. it's just that it is NOT taught in elementary schools, and republiqans are using it as a boogeyman, while at the same time pushing to ban books that are honest about history.

When Democrats don't go left on economics they get crushed by the culture war stuff from Republicans.

That's the best takeaway from Virginia's election that I've read.

Democrats did go left on economic issues quite a lot since Biden took office. Another round of stimulus/free money, super generous unemployment benefits, the introduction of child tax credits, lots of talk about raising the minimum wage and medicaid expansion, unprecedented spending bills being discussed - imho, it's completely asinine to believe that everything would be fine for Democrats if only the $3.5 trillion reconciliation bill had been passed. Voters would still be unhappy about inflation and supply chain issues, they would still be unhappy about covid still not being under control, CRT would still be a politicaly toxic pile of garbage, the situation at the border would still be a disaster, the Afghanistan debacle would still cast the competence of the Biden admin in doubt, and so on and forth.

Dems failed or made bad strategic decisions on too many fronts, that's the real reason for their predicament. They blew their chance yet again in 2021, just like they did in 1988, 2000, 2009, and 2016.

Wait, I thought the stimulus/free money was bipartisan and was going to happen regardless. Which is it?

Lots of "talk" about things doesn't mean shit. They didn't get it done, and didn't even promise to get it done. They're also stonewalled on the infrastructure bill.

You aint got shit to point out regarding left economics that's been accomplished since the presidential election.

In Virginia they didn't pursue shit about leftist economics, and instead just let themselves get piledrived by culture war bullshit. "Wah I don't like CRT, even though I literally have no clue what it is besides Fox News talking points".

Another round of stimulus was probably inevitable, but Dems went way overboard with its scope.

Ulta-generous unemployment benefits and child tax credits were accomplished. Many commentators, liberals and conservatives alike, said that the child tax credits in particular were a lowkey milestone legislative victory for Democrats which will prove to be very popular.

It was a strategic decision to tie the bipartisan infrastructure bill to the partisan reconciliation bill. If Pelosi brought the bipartisan bill up for a vote in the House, it would most likely pass with substantial crossover support from Republicans. It is Biden/Pelosi/the House progressives who are holding the infrastructure bill hostage to try to force through a piece of legislation (BBB) which does not have majority support in Congress.

In New Jersey, CRT was much less of a focus of the race than in Virginia. It was actually the Republican candiate, Ciattarelli, who made an economic issue (property taxes) the centerpiece of his campaign. The end result was a similar-sized Democratic underperformance. (Youngkin won a Biden+10 state by 2, Murphy will end up winning a Biden+16 state by around 4 when all votes are counted.)

Virginia went Biden in 2020 by 10 points. It's apparent that they aren't a Fox News loving demographic. The Democratic candidate ran on cancelling advanced placement courses, replacing white teachers, and excluding parents from the decision-making process. Those are tangible, easy to understand positions that hold a great deal of sway with moderate voters. It's a huge issue particularly for Asian voters, a key Democratic constituent in the state.
