Speculation maybe, but not wild. I figure the truth is somewhere between what the NYT/WaPo report and what NYP/Fox report, and the liberal outlets have sources claiming its all about a dispute over mundane presidential archives. And thats precisely the kind of untested territory of implicit presidential authority over classification and post-presidency privileges. Which until now remained completely untested under the law because no lawmaker felt the need to persecute an ex president and no DoJ was batshit insane enough to do it.
