did you grow up in a liberal household? i thought that was your backstory.

I grew up in a suburb near Pittsburgh, PA Middle to upper middle class I guess. Not wealthy at all, but not lacking for anything really. Pennsylvania itself is severely democratic.
The street I live on right now is about 85% anti Trump. I guess the area is... pretty much.

At 17 years old I left here and joined the service, met a girl in the service....we were in Cali at the time. She was from Cali and wanted to stay there... so I said: no problem. Most of my adult working life was in Cali. At that time I would say I had a liberal leaning. It's only since I got older that I felt myself to me more conservative.

After living with this woman for 10 years.. we broke up... peacefully, and 6-7 years later I moved back to PA.

But I'm not really any party or leaning. I just cherry pick what I want from the different factions and am my own party, I guess. I think most people that don't just "go with the flow" eventually end up as their own party, so to speak.

yeah that's what i remembered. my point tho was Ink saying conservatives can't spell but cry when people don't use english, then you proving you were taught to spell well in a democratic household, doesn't really disprove what he said. but grats on spelling that stuff.

Actually he said: "Conservatives have no fucking clue how our language works".

My response was assuming he meant the English language.

He could have meant, cons have no fucking clue how to manipulate people with language. He could have meant Trump doesn't use the English language well. (If this is the case I agree with him).

Ink has the tendency to boil things down to statements that are too short for pinning down his exact meaning. It's like my sig says... "Everything should be made as simple as possible, but not simpler".

his point was quite clear, conservatives get mad when foreigners dont use english, but also have a poor grasp on it themselves.

we all know the stories of people yelling in a grocery store "this is america, speak english".

it was just a simple joke, no need for 4d level dissection.

Well ofc, everyone in the US should speak English... duh. That would be a lot more intelligent than the whole rest of the country wasting ungodly amounts of man hours and money on making all signs, computer programs, computer telephone messages, electronic device messages, forms, documents, etc., in 5-6 different languages.
I have no problem with folk speaking different languages... but I don't think the entire US infrastructure should change to accommodate immigrants or visitors... that refuse to learn English.

/e Once we invent universal translators or discover the babel-fish, then anyone can speak w/e they want in the US.

You've jumped the shark.

just because someone is speaking spanish in a grocery store (something conservatives have been caught yelling at them for) doesnt mean they dont speak english. or would need special signs.

Some conservatives want ONLY english spoken in public, and that is what is known as a constitution violating opinion.

no need for a translator, people can speak whatever language they want in public. right now, in america, according to the constitution.

Do you see what you just wrote? You're grouping all conservatives in one narrow framework, that isn't true... and even if it was, is not what cons meant in the first place.
You want to speak Spanish...go for it... you want to interact with this country though... you do that in English.

/e Do you actually think my opinion on this will change since the last time we discussed this? When I go to a different country, I don't find a group of Americans and start demanding that the ATM machine has English. I buy a translator book.

learn to read.

then realize i'm describing a situation in which 2 people are speaking spanish to each other in a public place when someone gets mad about it (usually because they're convinced the spanish speech is about them). so your "point" on interaction can follow the above.
