I'm not bending over backwards, I'm just pointing out the logic behind her analogy which you guys seemingly all failed to understand.

when the "logic" behind your analogy is outweighed by 10x more actual logic in context you've made a terrible point.

Hitler WAS a good painter, and still no one cares.

Israeli airstrikes targeting the Gaza Strip in May 2021

That's some kind of a big explosion.

Not really...look, I know she's on your team so you feel obligated to defend her, but there's no reason to. She made a stupid analogy and is getting torched for it. The fact that you believe that she is capable of nuanced thinking is part of the problem. You give these people WAY too much credit.

IMO, there's no point in having a representative democracy if you want to fill it with idiots. The fact that you want people like Ghot running your government is flat out absurd. I know that you love people who lack critical thinking skills because it benefits you politically, but this is a new low for you. It's one thing to have people to represent the WISHES of the idiots but it's another to have ACTUAL idiots in charge.

The analogy was not stupid, it made a cogent point.

People like Boebert, MTG or Waters are NOT in charge of anything. I never said that I want people like Ghot running government, no idea where you're getting this from.

And yes, I stick by my viewpoint that it's absolutely not ideal when the political class of a country consists of nothing but elites who were all raised in privileged families and went to the same privileged universities, lived similar and privileged lives which are far removed from the life experience of average citizens. Politics, and political coverage on the media, being dominated by a detached beltway bubble is part of the problem of politics in the U.S. and one key factor for the huge disdain large parts of the country have for the swamp. People vote for figures like Trump because they're looking for the loudest, most obnoxious human grenade they can find to throw at the swamp.

Moreover, I think we should really distinguish between House backbenchers/lawmakers and chief executives who head government agencies. Yes, I want the brilliant, pedigreed folks with fancy degrees to run the treasury or be the climate czar. But I do not want the representatives of the people, who are sitting in the House, to consist of nothing but Steven Mnuchins and John Kerrys.

Good thing then that I never claimed Boebert to be a smart or savvy person - all I argued is that this specific analogy/argument she made is better than you guys give it credit for.

it really isnt tho. its a glimmer of a cogent point with more hurdles than it can manage to be worth repeating.

and historically i have HATED the term "incomparable". or people posting "false equivalency" on what was just a comparison. ive died on that hill dozens of times in pard.

but that post is utter shit.

If you think her point is cogent, then I may have to question YOUR ability to think clearly. We both know that if AOC said this, you'd be railing against her being a "dumb bartender."

Who is talking about privilege? Tons of smart people don't go to college and they do very well for themselves. I'm talking about the ability to THINK. People with an IQ of 85 shouldn't be in Congress. I'm sorry, that's just a deal breaker for me. Like I said, you don't need to be a stupid person to represent stupid people.

BTW, Maxine Waters is the CHAIR of the House Financial Services committee. She's literally one of the most powerful people in Congress. Even that is a false equivalence though because Waters is significantly sharper than Boebert and MTG.

imagine being so stupid that you actually believe taking a vaccine against a global pandemic translates to uncritically obeying authority, lol.

What I find most amusing is the 'modern left's fixation with the 'bootlicker' term. As if the abyss could not gaze any more into them..

Some users (and their kin) can't seem to veer off their roots I guess.

Not contradictory at all. You have to assess policy based on evidence. In the case of the CDC their policy is evidence based, tailored to a real problem, and is therefore good. In the case of the CIA their policy props up imperialism and hurts people and so it's bad.

I get it though, you don't actively think about your policy positions.
