Well... just like some people are unwilling to ever entertain the idea that there truly might be conspiracies, others have trouble coping with the idea that any development could truly occur randomly. The coronavirus wrecking havoc and fucking Trump's reelection prospects imho is a great example of "shit just happens".

And let's not kid ourselves: if Trump had handled the situation even just somewhat decently, he'd have won reelection with ease (considering his flawed and uninspiring opponent). So even if there had been a big bad conspiracy to unleash the coronavirus to take him down, this plan would still have had to rely on Trump's own incompetence to work.

Losing to Obama's vice president would be a fitting conclusion to the Trump saga.

At the end of the day, Trump was the right messenger at the right time, but he was the wrong person to actually execute the policies from his platform. Like someone here on PaRD once said: Trump is the Robert Baratheon of politics - great in battle, shitty on the throne. Biden would be the boar in this metaphor...


Anyway, demand for an agenda like his wont go away, whether he wins reelection or not.

exactly what should one have done? ordered every state to shut down unilaterally? or keep travel into America unrestricted completely through March and April as other politicians suggested? perhaps ban people from being arbitrarily moved into nursing homes? and a truly effective measure would to have put a ban on people from being unhealthy unhygienic slobs.

He has no agenda, and he's the messenger of no one but himself. He divided his country like no tomorrow, increased inequalities, destroyed his country credibility.
For sure there's a eternal demand for xenophobia & isolationism... And, thank you Donald, this department, which was already barely a minority, is now almost completely grilled.

There's no conspiracy here that proponents of bigger government which tend to be against capitalism are trying to seize this opportunity. No wonder why Cortez is so gleefully pushing for larger big gov't with her rhetoric.

I mean the discussion worldwide has been framed as to why governments aren't big enough to be able to cope with anything and everything. Governments now taking ownership in private companies both debt and equity stakes, small businesses destroyed, people's savings being eroded which means eventually higher reliance on government, etc. We're certainly one step closer to your dream of a socialist Cuba/Venezuela style utopia.

He should have shut down travel from Europe too as soon as infection rates went up there. He should have used the time that his travel restrictions bought to actually prepare the country for the arrival of the coronavirus. Start producing a stockpile of PPE, invoke the DPA, start producing proper tests, make sure that he CDC doesnt fuck up the development of its own test, start generous funding for research on the virus, start preparing response plans in a joint round between the federal government, public health experts (Fauci, Birx) and all governors.

Later on during the crisis, it would have been his task to drive the communication about coronavirus, to deliver a sensible and consistent message. Weaponizing the resources of the federal government to reward bootlicking governors and punish critical blue state governors was an ultra-shitty move, imho one of the worst things he has done throughout his entire presidency. Generally speaking, it would have been his task as president to bring the country together in a time like this instead of doubling down on partisan division. It would have been his task to, for once, put the joint mission (get through this time as well as possible) ahead of his ego and his self-interest.

This was a unique situation, one in which the country really needed Trump to show leadership and to provide a unifying message/tone. He not only failed to do so, he wasnt even trying.
He should at least have delegated all those tasks to less polarizing figures in his administration and to experts, fade into the background and not actively harm the public health efforts with his daily clown show. If he cant provide actual leadership, couldnt he at least went golfing and post pics of himself heading the meetings of his corona task force from inside the White House 2-3 times a week to pretend like he's doing something and got this under control?
