There's also the issue of China having a lot of the primary resources, especially rare earth elements (which was a huge reason that industry moved there in the first place). Mines would need to be started up in other nations, along with prospecting.

And I do agree India is the better of the two, but the best option for any product, is to have more than one source and have the sources be as local as possible.

This is why the Danes need to sell us Greenland, it's for the greater good!

In reality though, Denmark doesn't have the capabilities nor scale to mine for rare earths in Greenland, we should seriously consider starting mining operations there as a diversifier. It's really the main reason Trump talked about buying it.

As long as the people of Greenland stand to benefit as much of their natural resources as the people of Norway have, and they have a say where mining operations will happen, I'm ok with it.

Greenland has a decent amount of people not living nearly as good as in Denmark itself, they deserve to prosper from their land.

-edit- In corona related news, our COVID-19 ICU admittances has dropped to below 500 here.

Restrictions have been relaxed (1.5m distance is the general rule) and some places are allowed to open again (hairdressers, tattoo parlors, soon also bars and restaurants), there's also a roadmap for other businesses up to the 1st of September.

I really hope if there will be a second peak, it'll be a lot lower than the first. People are still being fairly conservative in their contacts, which is good.

I have this urgent feeling that very soon, Greenland will happen to "host terrorists" and be in urgent need of liberation and being brought democracy...

Problem with moving from China to other places is China has a developed infrastructure while many countries around them don't. You need behemoth size ports, factories, roads, etc. Those are very high fixed costs and take time to develop.

Yeah, not gonna happen over night, but what China did to the rest of the industrialized world will also happen to them as their populace gets used to a high standard of living. Manufacturing jobs only work to build your economy while you are still developing, then suddenly those developing countries start looking better.

That's why China is so eager to build geopolitical and military power, and to catch up with the US in the technologies of the future. Also note that China has such a huge population that they dont need to fully catch up to the West in terms of productivity or technology to pull ahead in terms of overall economic power. The America-led coalition (North America, Western Europe, Japan, South Korea, Australia, New Zealand) has around 800-900 million people, China alone has 1.45 billion. If they can reach just 70% of 'our' productivity, their economy will be larger.

I've watched some documentaries on Greenland, they have a fairly depressed way of life tbh. Between Denmark's relatively small size and stringent environmental standards, many mining operations have been shut down leaving those people with very limited career prospects. I honestly think if there was a survey for the 50k or so Greenland inhabitants if they would want to be part of the US, with the understanding that the US will bring in high paying jobs, build schools, roads, bringing cheaper food products, US citizenship with the ability to move anywhere within the US, etc. you would have overwhelming support. A perfect example of this is Alaska. Those native communities are infinitely better off by being connected and part of a large entity like the US. They would of never had amenities like electricity, fresh fruit and vegetables, electronics without being under the umbrella of the US.

Ultra north countries are top suicide because of the lack of sun, or simply 6 months of night.

How much % of the population is already infected ? Per country, per median age / distribution ?
So fuck here we have Pastor institute saying 5.7% going straight for 1-2% death rate (considering not all death have been counted, and vulnerable people are not hit first)
