I would wait for more sources...

“Now we can say it is certain that it is a human-to-human transmission phenomenon,” Dr. Zhong Nanshan, a scientist who is leading a government-appointed expert panel on the outbreak, said in an interview on state-run television on Monday.

If Xi was trying to suppress this information, seems weird that the scientist leading a government-appointed panel would admit to it on state television a day before the supposed call to WHO.

it doesn't make much sense timelinewise
there's plenty of evidence that china was covering up coronavirus and suppressing information about it before that week, but that's when they started to cop to it

In France we had at least 1 case in early december.

IMO China was incompetent because of its structure: local gov terrified by central one, hiding numbers first, then central gov asked for real reports, and then asked to local gov to hide it back again...

So it's incompetence + lies.

India's running a "Replace China" campaign.

It'd just be moving the problem really.

Move supply chains closer to their markets, that will make us more secure and less dependent.

At least India is a pluralistic society and a functioning democracy. And based on its internal divisions and the hostilities with its neighbor Pakistan, it would be much easier to rein in India should they ever decide to really challenge the geopolitical supremacy of the United States.
And last but not least, India is cheaper than China, so moving jobs there could save money.

infrastructure would take some time to catch up, but it would be nice to get the global supply chain even partially out of the largest communist state to ever exist

Problem with moving from China to other places is China has a developed infrastructure while many countries around them don't. You need behemoth size ports, factories, roads, etc. Those are very high fixed costs and take time to develop.

There's also the issue of China having a lot of the primary resources, especially rare earth elements (which was a huge reason that industry moved there in the first place). Mines would need to be started up in other nations, along with prospecting.

And I do agree India is the better of the two, but the best option for any product, is to have more than one source and have the sources be as local as possible.
