a lawsuit based on the defendant making vague assertions on value of assets, and then financial institutions failing to conduct proper and necessary due diligence as is their responsibility

anyone can say their business is worth over 9000 billion dollars. if financial institutions go along with it without doing any further analysis, that’s their own negligence.

You're not wrong that financial institutions need to be held accountable as well, but if the assertion that the higher value of assets was the correct valuation (for loan documents, etc), then it's still tax fraud on the other end.

They need to go down, too. "Everyone else does it too" is not a defense.

I agree they all should go down. Maybe one day the government will agree.

Agreed. I don't care who's on that list. If Gary Johnson is on that list, he should go down, too.

its the JFK report all over again. "well theres a few names on that list who are still alive and even though they've left office we'll withhold until they all die out". give me a fucking break, if they're already dead we can't hang them in the streets covered in tar and feathers. and thats more than they deserve.

made-up taxes on implied asset value should be wiped out. it is gross government overreach. the suit is 'the state lost revenue because someone said something was worth x and a bunch of other parties signed off on it'. i paid higher property taxes by 25% this year because some entity said my house was worth more. i derived :zero: benefit from this supposed valuation. i made no extra money or revenue from this supposed valuation.

JAMES: “The club generated annual revenues of less than $25 million dollars and should have been valued at more than, valued at about $75 million dollars. However, Mar-A-Lago was valued as high as $739 million dollars. Mr. Trump used inappropriate schemes to inflate the value of his other golf clubs.”
revenue is not synonymous with value.

where does a lawyer from NYC derive a value on a golf property in Florida? also a civil suit for tax fraud is rather.. bizarre.

Allahpundit(from twitter and hotair fame) is now at The Dispatch, writing under his own name.

This is his first newsletter, and it might be the best piece I've ever read at The Dispatch. Give it a read PaRD.

I don't think the term "honor" really applies to these scenarios and I'm glad the author shifted to "fighting" instead. The question that everyone needs to ask themselves is: "What are you fighting for?" There was a time when conservatives fought for religious liberty, sensible government, world order, etc. Many conservatives still WANT those things but that comes secondary to "owning the libs." Republicans fight to make liberals cry. I can't blame them because it's fucking hilarious when liberals cry but that shouldn't be your primary motivation.

If these were neutral institutions, and Vance were suggesting that the right weaponize them, it would be an extremely destabilizing step, and would have to be judged accordingly in terms of what was gained versus lost. But they aren't neutral institutions, they're left controlled institutions that have already been weaponized for partisan gain. There is nothing to lose, and much to gain by neutralizing them. I don't necessarily agree with the rest of what he said, so I'll skip it.

This is like atheists complaining that religious institutions are hostile towards them. Republicans used to be the party of sensible government reform but they decided to ostracize conservative thinkers. I saw a video today of Rand Paul dueling Fauci and Fauci had to explain to him that the FDA and CDC had fundamentally different roles in handling pandemic policy. At this point, they can't even understand an org chart!

A few things:

The "Flight 93"ism is apparent in your response. In other words, the stakes are so high and the enemy is so evil, that it requires the right to put aside morality, honor, or whatever else, and embrace dishonor and immorality. I guess that's an argument, but it's not really disputing anything in the article. If anything, it's confirming the article.

But I disagree of course. First, I don't think the stakes are that high, or the enemy is that evil. The majority of the country is not Republican, and the vast majority are perfectly fine people who want a good life for themselves and their families. That includes politicians. And there's very important issues at stake in politics. The social/cultural leftism is the main reason why I'll never be a Democrat. I hate the abortion and gender ideology extremism of the left. But we're a democracy, and we're a civilized people. We can handle these issues without dishonor, cruelty, or immorality. Second, as a Catholic Christian, I can't advocate "doing evil so that good may come of it". It's expressly forbidden, but I understand many Trumpists don't agree with Christian morality. Third, I don't know that it's a good political strategy. The Republican party would do better electorally if it stopped acting cruel and insane. There's nothing inherent about populist policy which requires embracing cruelty, fascism, or authoritarianism, but maybe you disagree.

How would your description of Cheney differ from someone like Lindsey Graham? Why is there no concerted effort to destroy him? It's not about her policy viewpoints, it's about her opposition to Trump's attempt to end American democracy. This is obvious, I don't know(actually, I do know) why Trumpists have to pretend otherwise.

The rest is more "the stakes are high and the enemy is evil", so we're going to act like fascist authoritarians, purge the government of non-Trumpists, and insert conspiratorial lunatics into government. Once again, you're basically confirming the author's points, lol. You're just trying to explain why you can get behind this insanity.
