I would say that it wont make too much of a difference, but at the margins, impeachment helps Trump and hurts Senate Republicans.

Turnout for both sides will be huge anyway since Trump such an omnipresent and deeply polarizing figure and mobilizes low turnout voters of all kinds. But I think that Trump voters will be more offended by the attempt of "the other side" to overturn their vote for Trump via impeachment than Democratic voters will be offended by impeachment being stonewalled and ultimately failed.

He's referring to GOP turnout and I think there's an element of Trump's base that you're underestimating. Granted, I don't think impeachment is going to really galvanize these voters anymore than they are. These people love what Trump stands for: a warrior for the culture war. They love that he shits on liberals and institutions each and every day.

If you don't have an opinion on this issue, you're clueless and have your head in the sand.

A majority of Americans now conclude that this is a colossal waste of time.

What's especially interesting is that Republicans have fallen increasingly behind the President the longer this has gone on. A chunk of the leftists on this forum initially voiced the hope / conviction that Republicans would eventually break from the President, but that doesn't appear grounded in fact.

It's really not interesting at all... this is how every scandal plays out. Republican politicians can't go against Trump because if they lose the Trump base/Fox News crowd, they're finished politically. Most sway-able voters don't follow these issues closely enough to recognize truth from fiction, so they hear CNN presenting facts and Fox presenting fiction, and throw their hands up and walk away.

It's kind of diabolic in a way, although it happened by accident. Trump's complete and utter detachment from reality and shamelessness in the beginning garnered some pushback from Republicans and conservatives in government and media. But now they've figured out the best way to survive(politically and financially) is to match Trump's detachment from reality and shamelessness. Standing in the middle doesn't work for Republicans. Trump says "because you are lukewarm, I will spit you out of my mouth".

I laughed pretty hard watching that the first time.

You can't hold the anti-intellectual, uneducated banner proudly for years and then feign outrage when pundits make fun of you for it. And if you're the sort of person whose vote might change based on that clip, you probably can't find Ukraine on a map.

I'm cool with pundits attacking proud ignorance. And I don't look at stupid, old white people as some protected class. That's sort of a leftist viewpoint, that you should only make fun of people with power.

There's no contradiction. I don't hold presidents and cable news pundits to the same standards. If Trump didn't behave like a fool, neither would you.
