He doesn't want more power for the states he wants to end all taxation and send us back to feudalism.
Feudalism? Don't think so. Then again, depends on what he means by "taxes". As it stands now, there are hidden taxes on most "sin" items like tobacco, alcohol, etc. There are sales taxes. There are income taxes. There's a hidden gas tax. There are licensing and permit fees. There are taxes on utilities (in addition to the bill, wtf?), there are also a wide variety of fees, fines, and other "revenue generating consequences" of stepping out of line. Effectively, there are so many taxes on so many things, and virtually none of them existed except property OR sales tax, depending on the state, prior to 1900, that "feudalism" seems harsh. We were a Constitutional Republic functioning at a high level long before most of the taxes were imposed. So I suppose the question is, is he saying "zero taxes" or "limit the taxes"? Because truth be told, your basic sales tax should be plenty more than enough to fund basic government services.
Also, just to point out, the government doesn't build roads. Contractors build roads. So the government takes money from you, syphons off a huge chunk of that money into the bureaucrats that hire the contractors, then gives the remainder to contractors to build the roads. It does not behoove contractors who work for the government to be quick about their work. On the flipside, contractors who build roads for companies with their own massive complexes, such as Dell, Nike, etc. will roll that shit out in a day and be done with it. Fast, durable, amazing. The 2 primary issue with government is loss of efficiency and much higher cost for often lesser quality work.
