Outdated language can act as a barrier to the literature. Nobody is saying we should stick to the original translations of Homer.
This kind of response is pretty silly and actively ignores the practical considerations of teaching literature.
Of course they do. Why else do you think we teach Ancient Greek at universities? Translating Homer into English is a tricky process, one which the scholars doing the translation argue about all the time. Small changes can have a butterfly effect on the overall meaning of the work.
Imagine trying to teach Huckleberry Finn without allowing for the dehumanizing language that makes it such a powerful anti-racist text. It completely misses the mark.

Yes, it does. So the idea that that people who push to have books banned are 'leftists' is ludicrous on its face.
In recent years, the majority of challenges (at least, as far as the books listed on that site are concerned) have come from the right, against books with what are generally considered to be left-leaning themes (anti-racism, LGBTQIA+ themes, anti-police themes, etc).
We are talking about degrees. Stopping a book from being published is far more terrible than lobbying to take it out of a library. That said, the correct response is to deplore censorship, not finger-point as an excuse to censor the other side.
