every decision he made in congress was wrong. crime bills, busing, wars, private contracts between individuals, cozying up to segregationist policies, on and on and on. failed both prior Presidential runs. gets a free pass by the media and the swamp and runs on “not being Trump”. and then follows the numerous successful parts Trump administration playbook on everything (except for taxes where he wants us to have the highest tax rate on earth and foreign policy vs China where he’s been humiliated already)

Why would a constitutional amendment be required for DC but not for other states joining the union? Not sure why Manchin believes that.

The debate was operating under the assumption that the filibuster would be eliminated, or gutted to the point where it doesnt apply to bills like that.

Manchin has basically thrown a curveball at these mind games and made it clear that even in a world without the filibuster, he would not support this piece of legislation.

DC might require a constitutional amendment since the capital is in the constitution

The latest progressive proposals were to shrink the Capital District down to a small strip along the National Mall and to make a new state out of the rest of DC, which would have circumvented this particular problem.

I think most smart political observers knew the filibuster would not be eliminated under Biden, particularly with only 50 Senate Democrats.

I've always been confused that Trump supporters thought Manchin would suddenly become a leftist if Biden got in office. First, it would be political death for him in WV. Second, he's just not there ideologically.
