Obama's cig tax, Trumps ecig banning, and not Biden's menthol ban might be the stupidest most pointless public policy string ive ever seen.

i used to smoke. quit on my own accord. terrible habit imo, and one that should be resolved by individual decisions

i will say its sordid history with cigarette companies who i have no fond opinion of. them giving our troops cartons of cigs for free during wars softly poisoned a couple generations of men in regards to nicotine addiction

With all due respect the vape shit almost killed my brother after 3 years of heavy use, but he also quit on his own after he had to go to hospital for fluid in his lungs

/E
Will jsp end up like 4chan lol

i vape while driving, but all the "ban" did was make people like me switch from fruity flavors to a mint type flavor. im sure some people did quit, and many many many more switched to mint flavors or changed to more expensive rigs and mixing their own fruity flavors.

the ban also was justified with cases of people buying cheap THC cartridges from China, not from american companies selling nicotine products.

complications do happen from nicotine vaping, so im not saying your brother isnt a legit case against vaping. glad he got off it.

100%, the tobacco lobby and paying off movie stars to make their products look cool are shitbags. especially for any marketing targeting children. i just find the banning of only certain products that are bad for us a bit comical.

look at trans fats, didnt require nationwide bans, just some bad press and they had to phase out some of the corn syrup ingredients. not that it made many of the products any more healthy.

I still don't know why some extremely harmful foods are not being forced off the market.

Shit like cheese puffs, zebra cakes, swiss rolls, etc needs to be either taxed to death or pushed off the market.

You want to make a difference in people's health? Target shit that costs 1-2 bucks but has enough trans fats and sugars that a person needs in a week.

So many poor kids grow up with this type of trash food and are basically destined for a life with diabetes and obesity.

I remember in elementary school, there were children that spent their lunch money on TastyKake Butterscotch Krimpets.

They would smash the Krimpets together and make a giant ball of butterscotch then eat it.

When given the choice some people will choose hell over heaven, it is irresponsible to shield them from those consequences because they deserve the truth.

because the corn/sugar lobby is one of the most powerful ones in america. so powerful they rarely even get bad press unless its 5000% daily recommended trans fats in a childrens juicebox.

most americans dont even realize the laundry list of products that only have corn syrup in them in america, the sugar/corn lobby is a bane on american society.

I agree with this.

Brazil has a carbon neutral economy because they make ethanol car fuel from fermented sugar cane. Price floors on sugar prevent that from happening here and switchgrass isn't a good replacement. And corn is just a useless fucking crop, animal food that somehow gets marketed to humans.

It spills over into almost every area of life.

this is what happens when we make heroes of a profession (farmers) and then corporations absorb that profession. we still have an idea that american famers are small family units that feed the world, and therefore accept massive subsidies to those families, when in reality its just corporations scalping america.

my grandfather used to sit and think all year about crop plantings and each year our livelihood was literally on the line if there was a terrible drought or flood. you'd hear of families from the whole county driving over tractors to try and dig out trenches for other farmers so they didnt lose crops to floods. now corporations over plant and sit back relaxed when shit goes sideways because they know a govt bailout will come.

Iowa is a fucking Red state where winning depends directly on the amount of money you're willing to pay failed crops. its insane.

Banning Zebra Cakes is justification for a civil war. I didn't realize you were a collapsitarian!

I'd rather abolish public schools and/or try to teach and persuade people not to eat so much junk food.

I feel the same and it was a hard habit to kick. The point I was trying to make, maybe poorly, was that a product like this would never make it to market now and is only legal and acceptable as much as it is due to being grandfathered in to the market.

If any other product came out that had zero utility and was very deadly it would be DOA.
