Later, Trump said he was being sarcastic. So that's some context.
It looked like he was being a little tongue-in-cheek, but a few months ago when China eliminated term limits, he also joked about "maybe we'll give that a shot someday."
He's praised Putin and Duerte for being strong leaders and doing an "unbelievable job."
Even if he's completely joking (best case scenario), he doesn't sound like the leader of a Democratic-Republic.
in a spree of overreactions the "strong leader" one is the worst for me. the whole "maybe we'll give it a shot" thing was obvious sarcasm, so that's bad too, but it's not as if he called Putin or Duerte "good leaders of the people who treat everyone fairly" or something. Why is it ok to call a leader a "Strongman" if he's a dictator but not a "strong leader". Both of those "leaders" have a very "strong" hold on their country.
i mean that as compared to just downright factually inaccurate statements that are offensive, such as "Kim loves his country" and implying he has "strong people". or that it was difficult for him to "take over the country".
