Beto is going to crash and burn and then attempt to flee the scene of the debate. Then his daddy the judge will bail him out and blame the eeeeeevil zodiac killer.

Props to both for having the balls/the confidence to do 3 debates. Cruz is convinced that he has the ideas that appeal to more voters in conservative Texas - but Beto is much more handsome and charismatic, and being on TV next to Cruz will stress this difference.

great point (bold) & I was surprised that Lyin' Ted agreed honestly, hence why I posted it.

well, as I said, Cruz can be confident that he is closer to a majority of Texans on the issues than Beto, so the debates (which will surely be broadcast live on TV and on the internet) are an opportunity for him to remind disillusioned and/or complacent conservative Texan voters of why they usually prefer republican candidates. he's trying to bolster the GOP turnout by these debates. and he's of course hoping for a mistake by Beto, where Beto backs a liberal policy which is deeply unpopular with Texan voters, or where he pivots so much to the center that it hampers the enthusiasm of the far-left parts of his coalition.

overall, though, I agree that Beto has more to gain than to lose during these debates, and vice versa for Cruz.

Cruz only agreed to the debates because his lead was shaved down to single digits. It's poltiics, not Cruz having balls.

I'm honestly surprised there's anyone left who would say Cruz has balls

but as I laid out above, it seems to me that those debates carry more upside for Beto and more risk for Cruz. why would he agree to them while still having a lead? and it's still texas we're talking about, imho, cruz will win more easily in the end than the current polls suggest - republican enthusiasm trails the democratic one atm, there's no doubt about that - but texas has a ton more conservative than democratic voters who will still go to cast their ballot even if they're unenthusiastic.

It is more of a risk for Cruz. But perhaps he is actually scared of losing now. He's a better and more experienced debater than O'Rourke.

By the way, this is what the Cruz campaign has sent to people recently. Could be unlawful (deceptive) language:

He pulled similar shit in the 2016 Iowa Caucus. Trump called him out for it.

Cruz sucks.
