Median household wage by family is at least $5-10k more in California across all categories: https://www.census.gov/hhes/www/income/data/statemedian/

What a disingenuous cartoon. Must be drawn by an artist incapable of doing two-step math equations, aka a libertarian.

I believe it is trying to show trends, not current differences. The difference was 12k in 2008 and 8k in 2012.

Pretty sure that cost of living in Texas is SIGNIFICANTLY less than CA. Not to mention that CA has a 10% state income tax in addition to an 8%+ sales tax.

Gas in CA is roughly $4.50/gal. I wonder what it is in Texas.

Cost of living is irrelevant to him. He cares not for the fact that people have more disposable income in conservative states even if their overall (nominal) income is lower. He cares for state taxation to force charity on his fellows, whether the charity is wanted, needed, or not.

There is one well-performing Red State in the US congrats guys.

Also you act like California is a purely Blue state when they just got back in a Democratic governor recently (had a Republican since 2003) and the Northern half of the state has been Red for as long as I remember.

Texas has a governor smart enough to take the Federal money, and the state is nicer for it. Which is good, because at least leaders in Texas seem to care for their least well off, unlike other Red states who are sacrificing their poor for ideological purity (real easy to do when your belly is full). Meanwhile Texas received more from the Federal government than it gives: http://www.dallasnews.com/news/politics/headlines/20120805-texas-can-no-longer-complain-that-it-gives-more-than-it-gets-from-federal-government.ece

One? Define well-performing.

Barely a Republican, and a Democrat legislature since, well... ever.

Taking federal money does not make one smart. It ties you down to federal control of the state and typically requires the state to spend more than it otherwise would in the first place. And "giving or getting" more from the Feds is a disingenuous metric altogether considering the feds' one-size-fits-all programs. The poverty level in AR is different than the poverty level in NY. Unless you're the feds.
