Now that I've seen the letter I can accept that this is political grandstanding. However, it's not the same thing as wanting your name on the checks. The latter is significantly more narcissistic and unwarranted. The former is just annoying
Also, let's say that Biden wanted his name on the most recent round of stimulus checks. That would still be not as bad as what Trump was doing because the most recent round of stimulus checks didn't have any Republicans vote for it and it's not right before a presidential election.
So even if we imagine the worst case scenario it still doesn't rise to near the level of the previous administration.
The reality for me is that I give Biden(in his first year) way more leeway than Trump(in his final year and in the midst of a pandemic). Plus it is relevant that the Democratic party were the ones who passed this recent bill, whereas under Trump the initial one passed pretty much unanimously. To try to score political points when we're at the beginning of the pandemic, and the effort was bipartisan, was much grosser politically than what Biden did.
Also, I wrote the above before I read your second bit. Great minds think alike.

Wasnt the main criticism of Trump's check-grandstanding that he delayed the checks (which were ready to go out) for another week or two just because he wanted his name on them? THAT, of course, is a much more substantive criticism than "he broke protocol to score political points".
I'm trying to forget what happened during that difficult time in American history.
