when the earthquake is over but your house is still in ruins, it couldn't possibly have been the earthquake.
when the robbery is over but your money didn't magically re-appear, don't blame the criminal.

Grandstanding and stirring shit up IS fighting and owning the libs. Conservatives and right leaning people LOVE that Trump "tells it like it is." They don't care that he flat out lies all the time, they care about the delivery of the message which is strong and firm. I think what people DON'T like are his tweets and him going overboard at times with his vindictive behavior. Ultimately, conservatives want to have their cake and eat it too. The fact that we are having this discussion shows that people can interpret the question VERY differently.

The culture war reigns supreme and policies take a back seat. The vast majority of people don't want to get into the weeds like we do.

The contemporary culture wars have huge policy implications though. The "cancel culture" thing is not just some inconsequential internet rage - free speech is fundamental for an open democracy, and the power to define the overton window indirectly determines who has the social and political power in the long run.

Another example is the push by progressives and the Biden admin to replace "equality" with "equity". It is coded language and essentially means that we, the society, should no longer strive for equal opportunity for all and should instead try to enforce equality of outcomes by explicitly discriminating people based on the color of their skin or their gender.

a quick reminder for the "LeFt WiNg cAncEL cULtuRe!!1" crowd:

just this week, laura ingraham tried to "cancel" coca-cola for their support of voting rights, offended religious fundamentalists made nike "cancel" lil nas' sneakers, and this is a list of the 10 most challenged books of 2019:

http://www.ala.org/advocacy/bbooks/frequentlychallengedbooks/top10

the notion that the LEFT opposes free speech while conservatives support it is laughable and absurd. the only free speech that right wingers care about is that of science-deniers, bigots, and racists.

i'd consider myself rather informed concerning german politics, but i know only five (maybe six, not sure about top left, looks somewhat familiar but i can't think of a name) of those, maybe blackx can top that? three of those are in prominent positions currently, but this is most definitely not a list of the ten most prominent politicians in germany, lol.

i mean, i understand that's not the "point" of that tweet, it's about judging their physical attractiveness, and probably making some braindead generalisations based on it.

personally i'd consider it more relevant for my politicians to be intelligent, competent, and qualified - but i'm well aware that americans, and particularly republicans, don't care about unimportant stuff like that - as the likes of marjorie taylor greene, sarah palin, or lauren boebert illustrate, lol.

This is the biggest problem I have with electric cars. I mean, I'm a total geek for high tech, and on the surface would love to drive a Tesla. But the lithium and cobalt mining for the batteries is atrocious, both in an environmental and a human perspective.

Not just that, but driving electric cars does fuck all for the climate as long as they're charged with power from fossil sources. For them to make a difference, we would need a sufficient amount of excess green energy at the times when the cars are charged, which for most commuters will be during the night.
