Trump supporters are the last group of people I expect to actually understand why they do things. Sometimes just straight up asking people isn't a great strategy to figure out what their motivations are. Kinda like when somebody says "They should use legal avenues", then you tell them that entering the U.S. to seek asylum is a legal avenue and their tone suddenly changes to keeping brown people out.
So, when a poll shows a result which (partly) contradicts your narrative, you resort to "I know more about their true intentions than they themselves" and "they are too stupid/uninformed to know what they're talking about"? Lame.

Interesting. "Fight" and "Trump's personality" are basically the same thing but they poll much differently. At the end of the day though, it's clear that "owning the libs" is the biggest priority for Republicans.
No, they are not the same thing. Trump's personality entailed narcissism, grandstanding, braggadocio and constantly stirring shit up for the sake of it. None of these things are prerequisites for fighting against the libs.
The much more straightforward and believable interpretation of these findings is that GOP voters liked Trump because he brought the fight to the libs, but that they wished he had been more effective and smart in doing so.
They are looking for someone who has the same fighting spirit and agenda as Trump, but without Trump's glaring weaknesses. Someone who fights for "America First", but who is shrewd, self-restraint when needed and capable of strategic, long-term thinking.
