Sorry, I dont want to bug you over minor trivia, but I gotta ask: does this sentence imply that you consider "our (remaining) lifetimes" to be a longer timespan than "this century", or are my English and logic skills failing me?

No offense, but I highly doubt that another "winter of lockdowns" would be able to find majority support in the US, particularly not after a successful vaccination campaign which was sold to the people as the way out of the pandemic. The loss of trust in the promises of politicians and experts would be absolutely catastrophic.
