Republicans are way worse and it's not even close. While I'd prefer multi-member districts, I think every state should have a non-partisan panel that draws districts.

yeah, nice try with the bothsidesism, but the reality is: https://election.princeton.edu/2012/12/30/gerrymanders-part-1-busting-the-both-sides-do-it-myth/

facts don't care about your feelings and whataboutisms. the point stands.

This is not about bothsideism or tu quoque arguments. Your shitty meme argued that the fact that Republicans are using ugly gerrymanders puts them in a position where they have no right to complain about partisan power grabs. As I have demonstrated, Democrats also employ egregious gerrymanders when it suits them. Arguing that the existence of partisan power grabs disqualifies one's objection against further power grabs by the other sides inevitably has to cut both ways to remain logically consistent. A valid argument would be to say "Republicans are benefitting more from gerrymandering than Democrats, and are thus in a weaker moral position when it comes to these issues". This is not the argument of your simplistic "look, funny district shapes -> red party bad"-meme.

Your article refers to the political geography from 2012, which is very different from the one in 2021. It incorrectly and without good reasoning discounts the obvious, naturally occurring "self-packing" of the Democratic coalition. And there's even more valid counterarguments raised by the commentators. Overall, this is hardly a convincing, let alone an authorative, piece which would justify your bluster about "facts".

Inequality, the existence of disagreement with authoritarian leftists, and not being banned from spending money on political speech are not the reasons we are not more free.

No.

You don't have to continually remind everyone that you have no critical thinking skills.

These countries are only ranking so high because they tell moochers and freeloaders to fuck right off

Uh mate, here in australia we have disability pensions, unemployment payments, and a socialised healthcare system.

Says the guy who doesn't realise that corporate lobbying is LITERALLY the NUMBER ONE cause of loss of freedom.
People MUCH smarter than you (not a high benchmark) have declared america to be an oligarchy based on the whims of the super wealthy..
You want to talk about freedom? how about the freedom of having your vote matter?
Please do tell me with your brilliant critical thinking skills how your vote meaning jack shit if a lobbyist decides otherwise leads to you being more free mr genius, i can't wait.

I was replying to thundercock, who was saying that "libertarians should move to AUS/NZ/SUI" if they love freedom so much.

You falsely act as though i'm some big USA government cheerleader. I recognize and detest their power and laws.
I explicitly stated that the US is not nearly as free as I would like.

Lobbyists are merely a symptom of massive government power. Banning formal lobbying does not remove that power and doesn't remove people from influencing politicians to support bad policies and undue benefits.
The ability to petition government is in the first amendment. Banning it is not the epitome of freedom.

Democracy is not freedom either.
The whims of the masses should not be enforced. Doing so is not freedom.

Disagreeing with completely idiotic criteria for 'freedom' does not mean I think freedom means being locked in a cage.
A completely moronic and baseless assertion in response to reading something you didnt like.
Your turn to attempt to justify or retract that statement.

wrong on basically all counts. the meme makes fun of the hypocrisy of arguing against granting people representation, because it would likely benefit the other party, while at the same time continually disenfranchising people by things like gerrymandering and targeted voting laws. it's an obvious message, simple enough to understand for anyone even remotely familiar with american politics, and the point is very valid. your pathetic and dishonest whataboutisms, pearl clutching, and strawmanning are expected, but pointless - the facts speak for themselves...

I mean...sounds like we're in good company? We're definitely in the top quartile which is good.

Cato (based on 2018 data) places the US at 17 in human freedom, 27 in individual freedom, and 6 in economic freedom. It seems like your ranking is roughly in line with what Cato, the ultimate libertarian think tank, believes.

I think people like ^cambovenzi might prefer to live in countries with higher levels of freedom than America.

Top 5 for human freedom: New Zealand, Switzerland, Hong Kong (NOT ANYMORE!!!), Denmark, and Australia
Top 5 for individual freedom: Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Luxembourg, and New Zealand
Top 5 for economic freedom: Hong Kong (poor guys), Singapore, New Zealand, Switzerland, and Australia

It seems to me that libertarians in America should be fighting to be more like New Zealand, Australia, Switzerland, etc. Hell, maybe they should consider MOVING there.

CATO are a bunch of cucks, not the ultimate libertarian thinktank.

Their criteria and rankings are also wildly different from the one supportively cited by fender.
Using metrics like size of government, freedom to trade, freedom of association, regulations, etc is far better than the nonsensical leftist garbage in fender's post that misdefines freedom as equality, less polarization and democracy.

libertarians are fighting for more liberty in America. That doesn't mean emulating non-libertarian aspects of countries someone ranked higher in economic freedom.

Where did i say to remove the ability to petition the government? I want to remove the ability to BRIBE the government.
Again, you are completely wrong.
It is EASILY possible to lower the amount of influence money has in politics and anyone with even a tenth of the intellect you think you have would recognise that.
As to democracy not being freedom either..
Ok so your idea of freedom is literally some made up situation that lives only inside your head and that would NOT lead to better outcomes for the majority?
At least you have the freedom to be delusional i guess.
