The gig economy IS a problem though when significant amounts of people have to rely on it to pay for the bulk of their monthly living expenses, rather than to pay for unexpected, one-off expenses.

I don't think so. It speaks more to a problem with the underlying economy, not a problem with the gig economy.

If there are no jobs, is the right response to try and make "delivering food to apartments" the new gold standard for full-time employment? We need to try and find valuable full-time employment for our people while investing in UBI to prepare for the days when there aren't going to be as many jobs.

I really wouldn't consider the gig economy to be a problem at all if we had national healthcare and UBI.

Okay, if you put it like this, I agree. The gig economy got a bad reputation in the wake of the Great Recession when a ton of unemployed people were forced into it to scrape by.

Considering they spend less per person, cover a greater percentage, and are routinely ranked the best healthcare system in the world, I'd have to agree. It is working out pretty well.

They spend less because they let granny die instead of paying $400,000 for a heart bypass.. which I actually agree with.

We also have far better cancer survival rates and the shortest wait times. The fact that you read the ranking means it is probably a terrible ranking.

We actually don't have shorter wait times, because we don't record people who wait due to not being able to afford the procedure.

Cancer survival rates are dependent on the cancer, but are comparable between countries. There isn't a significant improvement coming to the US in most cancers, and the fact that they cover so many more people likely means their cancer survival rate is significantly higher due to early detection, which won't be caught in simple survival rate statistics.

The "they let grandma die instead of giving her heart surgery" is just a lie you've swallowed without looking into it.

Somehow i expect this doesn't account for the rather large percentage of the public that dies from treatable illnesses because they simply don't go to the hospital to avoid bankruptcy in america

What would you for example do if you were diagnosed with cancer today?
