This is me just thinking out loud without a shred of proof but imagine this scenario.

Neither side wants war. Neither side wants to appear weak or yielding. Is it too much of a reach to think that some compromise can be reached through back channels, so the situation deescalates?

The US lets Iran bomb some predetermined base while the Iranians can spam footage of this 'victory' both sides can frame what they did as a victory, lines in the sands are drawn and we go back to a sort of frozen conflict? They tested each other's boundaries and now both sides know.

Honestly if i was Potus or the CIA chief that's something i'd be willing to negotiate.

I'd say yes, but also state that that frozen state is with Iran crippled economically, fighting wars in the region, and shooting oil tankers.

so a return to "normalcy" still isn't a ceasefire. it's just a less direct conflict. and both Iran and the US will try to commit cyber terrorism behind the scenes even if a "ceasefire" is reached. as well as Iran funding terrorism and the USA stoking rebellion in Iran.

Which it looks like the Iranians are unwilling to give up.

"Initially, Ukraine's embassy in Iran said on Wednesday morning that engine failure caused the plane to crash and denied that it was terror-related or that a rocket had hit the aircraft.

But it later withdrew this statement, saying that anything was possible, and Mr Zelensky instructed Ukraine's prosecutors to open criminal proceedings over the crash."

Victims from seven countries: The victims include 82 Iranians, 63 Canadians, 11 Ukrainians, 10 Swedes, four Afghans, three Germans and three British nationals, according to Ukraine's Foreign Minister.

Last night was pretty much a best-case scenario. We take out their top military general, & they respond by using surface-to-surface ballistic missiles, that albeit can be viewed as a “show of force” ultimately was seemingly used on areas where they know American lives won’t be lost & didn’t do any significant damage...& their top brass viewed it as an proportional response.

So we basically knocked them on their ass, gave them a huge black eye, & they responded by getting up & pinching us, & then called it a fair trade.

Hopefully things settle down now.

Iranians did everything to avoid a bloodbath in the American bases they targeted.

Except not launching ballistic missiles.

I'm not surprised, though. A confrontation with the United States is the end of the current Iranian regime.

Seems to me this is the way this will play out. Both sides can claim some sort of victory and move on.

Also to the people saying that Trump is doing this to strengthen his reelection odds are mighty stupid. Trump is about the economy. An actual war or significant escalation would result in the stock market tanking so in what universe does it make sense for him to start a war in an election year?

Distraction from impeachment.

Also we know Trump is very insecure so he will overcompensate in every way.

Impeachment is a dud. Democrats are doing all they can to keep congress from voting on it and the MSM is silent because they know the outcome is a flop.

Your wishful thinking doesn't represent reality mate.
