Holy shit Hillary really wants to lose.

It's very unlikely that she'll lose. Kaine is a great pick because it allows moderates to vote for Clinton over Trump. Moderates matter, not the progressive left or radical right.

You want this to be president?
Immediate disqualification.

Is that true that 90% of americans (at least) are favorable to things like a background check on weapons buyers ?

I was hoping for Sherrod Brown.

The VP dynamic of this race is going to be boring.

That's likely who she would have chosen if it wouldn't have involved an automatic loss of a Senate seat. Kaine's kind of gotten away with murder in a sense -- he gets all the benefits of the "boring" reputation, he's considered a safe, risk-free, serious choice, but he's really a very charismatic, sunny, personable politician who's extremely media savvy. I've smirked every time over the past year when people have speculated at his possible selection as Clinton's VP as they've described him as "boring," because that's exactly what you pick when you're running against "dangerous" and "mentally unstable."

The best VP picks in modern history have been boring. It's when your pick hasn't been boring when you run into trouble.

True. I know he has never lost an election, and people like a winner, which is why they will vote for HRC over Trump.

Kaine has the potential to really surprise a whole lot of people. The political press is very lazy so they're going to push the "boring" narrative hard at least initially, and that's fine because Kaine likes to use the advantages that it brings, but Trump and especially Pence would be wise to not underestimate him. He is to quote Trump a "counter puncher," and he has absolutely no qualms about being ruthless if the situation calls for it.

He does have a strong track record of victory, most recently outperforming Obama in 2012. Clinton knows he'll be strong in and around Richmond where he was Mayor. They were already planning on the traditional strategy: run up the margins in NOVA where they expect Trump will absolutely crater, and both Clinton and Kaine will have appeal in Norfolk-based CD-2 where national defense is of such huge importance. They have a lot of avenues for how they could carry the state. My time in Philly next week was already going to be very VA-PRES focused, but now that Kaine is officially her choice we're going to be a whole lot more invested because if we can help Clinton carry the state, her route to the White House gets much, much easier.
