Calling them heroes does just as much to actually help them as "thoughts and prayers". We're using catchy tag lines instead of pushing for meaningful help. I think you're just overthinking it.

Like I said, all the praise they are getting now is just lip service. After the crisis is over, people will realize that improving wages and working conditions in the healthcare system would cost tax payers a fuckton of money, and they will back off.
To be fair, in this regard, the situation is different from gun control, which could be increased without raising taxes or dues.

Our healthcare system blows in the US. Not sure anyone wants to throw more money at it unless the fundamentals of the system change. Given the amount of money already spent on it, and record profits, you'd think some of the health institutions would be handling this better. Sunken cost fallacy

France
14,050 of these deaths occurred in hospitals and 8,564 in geriatric structures [from "retirement homes" to specialized hospitals]
So yep, this is 39% old or very old ones

WHO warns of COVID-19 reinfection — coronavirus survivors may not have future immunity
...

On the top of this, re-infection could appears weak with mild symptoms because it is recent and body still have a good 'memory' of antibodies. Let's not forget it could get worse after 6 months or even a year.

Sweden is fighting coronavirus with common-sense guidelines that are much less economically destructive than the lockdowns in most U.S. states. Since people over 65 account for about 80% of Covid-19 deaths, Sweden asked only seniors to shelter in place rather than shutting down the rest of the country; and since Sweden had no pediatric deaths, it didn’t shut down elementary and middle schools. Sweden’s containment measures are less onerous than America’s, so it can keep them in place longer to prevent Covid-19 from recurring. Sweden did not shut down stores, restaurants and most businesses, but did shut down the Volvo automotive plant, which has since reopened, while the Tesla plant in Fremont, Calif., was shuttered by police and remains closed.

Per capita, Sweden does have far higher numbers of cases and deaths than other Nordic countries, and also compares unfavorably to most of Central Europe. So it's not like they had no price to pay at all for their more lax approach.
What's really interesting, however, is that they issued no lockdowns and still havent seen explosive, uncontrollable growth of the infection numbers. They did not get hit by exponential growth despite keeping their country largely up and running.

Yeah but theyre also a more socially responsible people, a healthier population with better healthcare access, better educated, etc etc

America is too stupid to handle that kind of freedom responsibly

Who said I was comparing them with fat, uneducated Americans and their dysfunctional healthcare system?

The quality of healthcare, the overall education level, the obesity levels and all this stuff is very much comparable between Sweden and Norway/Denmark/Germany/Netherlands/Austria.

If the same level of underreporting observed in these countries was happening worldwide, the global Covid-19 death toll would rise from the current official total of 201,000 to as high as 318,000.
