do you actually think it isn't in the oil companies best interest to keep the oil from spilling and they will do everything they can to prevent ? you aren't a very smart cookie eh buddy

Bad argument. Making pipelines which go through thousands of miles of inaccessible wilderness completely tight and secure, as in 99.999% tight, would cost more than leaving them 99.5% tight and losing 0.5% of the oil to spilling. However, even small amounts of oil spillage can have devastating effects on the environment.
