Liberals for 50 years: These companies are causing problems and we're letting them get too big and powerful. We should enforce our anti-trust laws and break them up
Conservatives: Skynet is a private company. They can do what they want.

Conservatives after social media starts banning them for courting Neo-Nazis: WE NEED TO BREAK THEM UP OUR RIGHTS ARE MORE IMPORTANT REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

I agree with you. GOP mainliners suck big biz D in exchange for sheqels.

It was the one aspect of the Bernie campaign that I would completely green light.

Yeah and that's the kicker.

There is no constitutional route to regulating what speech Twitter, Facebook, or any of these platforms have to host. The first amendment does not in any way guarantee a platform, even if they all merged into one single company that controlled all social media on the internet.

The right solution there is to enforce anti-trust laws, not to make platforms host things.

No. It is a civil rights issue. The Constitution protects you from government. Civil rights is where the government protects you from another entity. So we need civil speech laws to protect your civil speech from being infringed by another.

It's just as much of a free speech violation to force somebody to host speech they don't want to host. Civil speech laws would get shut down pretty quickly as unconstitutional, especially with the corporate friendly supreme court that the right has cultivated.
