When your side downplays very real violence and destruction like that, you're not in a position to claim that smaller amounts of violence by the other side were a uniquely violent and awful episode. Normalizing and excusing violence and other unacceptable means is toxic for society, even if you think that they're being used to further a good cause. And just to make this clear: this last sentence applies to everyone - to both the crowd thinking that arson and looting will further the cause of black people, and to the crowd thinking that storming the Capitol and staging a wannabe-coup would save democracy. Both stances are obviously absurd.

If 10,000 people show up to protest and 300 riot, the protesting was mostly peaceful, not sure what part of this you struggle with?
If the riots were mostly violent the damage would not have stopped at 20 deaths and a billion in damages.

Splitting hairs. A lot of things in life are judged by their extreme cases, not the average. If 300 out of every 10000 planes crashed, people wouldnt start claiming that "flying is mostly safe". If 20 out of 100 chain smokers develop lung cancer later in life, we dont say "smoking is mostly non-carcinogenic".

We obviously have to draw a line somewhere, we cant allow any lone deranged asshole to discredit an entire movement or protest with his behavior. But when you see confederate flags and stormfront t-shirts at every single of these right-wing demonstrations, with the bulk of peaceful protesters not taking any offense with that, then you can't claim that they have nothing to do with white supremacy. Similarly, when every single larger BLM protest is accompanied by widespread looting and arson, you can't just claim that the two things have nothing to do with each other... except that that's exactly what their allies in the liberal media tried to do last summer.

Planes do crash and we do consider them mostly safe.
And plenty of smokers say similar.
And thats pure crap. we had large blm protests here in australia with zero looting, there were protests all around the world, only a few in america had looting and it was far from the majority

And that's why the exact frequency is so important. If 2 out of 10000 protesters do something horrible, we can discard it and pin it on individual misconduct. If 300 out of 10000 do something horrible, the same is no longer possible.

By the way: the rate of plane crashes among major airlines is around 1 in 11 million. If the rate was 300 out of 10000, nobody would ever set a foot inside a plane anymore, lol.
