Even a lot of engineering work hours are gonna be gone.
Over here we're currently working on integrating lots of smarter workflow solutions. Things like parametric designs or automated modeling steps. A lot of calculating work has already disappeared.
Some work will remain (translating customer needs to requirements, making designs pretty etc) but a lot of hours are gonna be gone.
100%. i went from post-shipment small fix drafter to mechanical designer and project manager by doing just that.
part one was building a library to eliminate the searches for references, part two was making tools for engineering.
our engineers used to have a calculator and dozens of formulas in their heads and search all over the server for stuff. now its all directed through my excel sheets.
our engineering manager said it wasnt needed, so we did a test where he did it old school and a newer engineer did it new school and he was destroyed even tho he drafts faster and has been at the company 20 years.

Talking about restocking shelves:
^thesnipa how long until Amazon's warehouses are fully automated too, and all the box slaves are added to the unemployment line?
it could be done today, the only reason they dont is the sheer number of unemployed people and the PR affect it would cause.
but i'd bet my ass they're removing 10-20% of their restockers per year right now. manual packers get replaced by drop packers, certain sectors are being automated now, etc.
edit: and all of those unemployed can blame AOC. amazon moved up its automation big time when she starter her "these arent good jobs" campaign.
