Terrible journalism tbh, but to be expected in the age of sensationalism.

Healthcare system always have worst case scenarios preparations or different type of stress analyses to see if they can cope and/or to find weaknesses. That doesn't mean that's what's going to happen.

Part of my schooling i do sensitivity analysis for financial statements. You could figure 10 variables being worst case scenario and painting a picture that the sky is falling only to realize that the actual probability of that scenario playing out is like 1 in 300,000.

The Coronavirus is worse than I initially thought it would be. I figured it would likely spread to a pandemic status, but I did not expect the disease to carry the associated lethalathity that it has initially posed.

I worked out the math this morning...

CV deaths in France and the US.
France (percentage wise) has had an "order of magnitude" more deaths than the US.

The math would be...

17/350mill for the US, and 11/67mill for France.

CV death percentage in the US... 4.857142857142857e-8
CV death percentage in France... 1.641791044776119e-7

Must be all that free French healthcare. :/

Not only is that not how you want to look at death rates, that's also only about 3.5x more, which is definitely shy of an order of magnitude.

Well that's how I want to look at death rates. JUST saying the US has 17 deaths and France has only 11 deaths is not really an accurate representation.
I have to give you credit for noticing that it's actually a tad shy of an order of magnitude, though. :)

Yes, because all 325 million US residents and all 67 million French residents have contracted the coronavirus, so making a comparison across their entire population is an effective calculation.
