and in general, the GOP will be hard-pressed to hold the house this fall - they cant afford to do anything but playing it as safe as possible in a district that they should hold, and can certainly hold with the correct candidate who is presentable to moderates and swing voters. The GOP simply cannot afford to lose districts because they nominated the "wrong" candidate this time around, with "wrong" meaning the one with significantly lower chances in the general election.



Might be something shady going on in North Carolina. But it might also be an attempt by the Feds to instill fear in minority voters and hence suppress their turnout.

How does that suppress minority turnout? You have to be a citizen to vote.

liberal media has been telling them for 2 years that trump is literally hitler and hates all brown people and wants to send them either to mexico or to concentration camps.

also, we dont know what the inquiry is about, it doesnt have to pertain to questions of citizenship - maybe felons and people on parole, as well as people who committed crimes recently that havent been detected yet, will be paranoid as well - and minorities are probably overrepresented among this group. (because of poverty and bad socialization, not because of the color of their skin!)

The story is that they issued the subpoenas on behalf of ICE. Other than using ICE as some kind of front, they only deal with immigration/customs, I don't see how it would suppress minority voting.

I can see them using ICE as a front since its the government, but I would need some proof of that.

Fair point. Maybe they want to scare away recently naturalized citizens from voting?

But then again, the whole "maybe its a play by the feds to suppress minority turnout"-thing was just one theory, and I consider the alternative explanation of "there really is something fishy going on in NC" to be equally likely.

This makes no sense. Recently naturalized citizens are aware of what it means to become a US citizen and what rights are given at that time. I was one. You have to pay, go through a process, then test on US civic/historical knowledge. There's no way in this universe that most naturalized citizens don't know that with citizenship comes the right to vote, so not really sure what exactly they'd be afraid of.
