It's extremely correlated with age and living in urban places. Also, since the chart is using a "single/married" dichotomy, it's possible that couples who are living together without being formally married or in a civil union are considered 'single' here.

The 18-29 demographic broke harder right than this one.

A lot of states didnt gather data on marital status though.
Now that I think about it, marriage rates should be higher not only among older cohorts, but also among whites than among non-whites. So marital status should not only be correlated with age, but also with ethnicity.
