A .22 report isn't remotely in the same ballpark as a .223/5.56. Yes, a .223 is "only" 1% greater in diameter, but 38% more mass (typical 40gr vs 55gr bullets) and 10 TIMES more energy (typically ~128 ft/lb vs ~1282 ft/lb). All 13 reports were of higher powered rifles than a .22. People who compare .22 to .223 are either dishonest or stupid.
.22-250, .22 wmr, .22 hornet.
Now I'm not saying that's the rounds homeboy used but it's not out of the realm of possibilities. It was most likely your standard ar clone though
