Just to get a feel for the magnitudes we're talking about there: life expectancy is roughly 80 years, so as a very crude approximation, we can assume that rooooughly 1/80th of a country's population dies each year, or 1.25%. So yes, a sudden jump by 0.16% is significant and noteworthy. And that was in spite of drastic countermeasures which mitigated the impact from covid and also pushed down mortality from many other causes like traffic accidents, drug overdoses and so on and forth.
Was covid blown out of proportion by the governments and public health officials? Absolutely. Did our countermeasures go too far and cause gigantic collateral damage, socially and economically? Absolutely. Were the vaccines overhyped and underdelivering? Absolutely.
But none of this implies that covid wasn't a legitimate public health concern or that the vaccines were completely useless.
been along time since i have had a conversation like this. lets look at history
https://www.macrotrends.net/global-metrics/countries/USA/united-states/death-ratewow been a while since i looked at these numbers. wow look at the growth rate of 2024 thats a massive drop?
from 1988 - 2007 it kept going down
in 2008 the death rate started going up from 2017 increase death rate is almost a constant .1 percent?..........
i contend? ..........using this thing as a metric covid had no effect on death rate as the trend is pretty much unchanged
what is curious is why the death rate started increasing in 2008?
