Not if you value the balance of powers as they were designed to be.

This is the heart of the problem: Any legislation that is passed that positively impacts some states while harming others is inherently harmful to a large portion of the population. Thus, it's up to the legislative branch to only pass laws that are for the good of ALL. Hence why the branch was set up with two house in a way that would keep them perpetually divided and stonewalled. The idea was to insure greater liberty, without preventing necessary and valuable changes to the way the government operates.

I think a lot of the "incapable of governing" rhetoric is simply ignorance of what "governing" means. To govern is not to write laws, it is to execute the laws. Executive branches govern based on the writs of the legislative. We don't really want the legislature willy nilly throwing away civil rights and freedoms, or mandating horrific and unjustifiable requirements on the citizenry. Hence, divided houses, and the ability of the executive to veto, and the judiciary to overrule based on the Constitution.

If anything, we need to reduce executive power, as the ability to basically "write law" via EO that violates statutory and Constitutional law, and enact it right up until it's invalidated by the court allows the executive (at Federal, State, AND City levels) to cause a lot of damage completely free of consequence.

I do value the balance of powers and both the Judiciary and Executive have gained WAY more power than intended. The Legislative branch is designed to be the MOST accountable branch.

lol. blocking a supreme court nominee for a record amount of time, then filling the court with blatantly partisan, activist judges, are somehow justifiable steps - but trying to restore at least the semblance of balance, trying to correct the gross politicisation of the institution, now THAT would be an egregious escalation, an unreasonable power grab.

that said, i don't expect biden to do anything about the SC or gun legislation. establishment dems LOVE the court being full of corporate friendly judges, and they actually don't care enough about gun issues to really address them. they are soft and dumb by design. they are just the virtue signaling, slightly friendlier looking side of the same coin that has turned america into a de facto oligarchy.

I agree with the first line. I'm confused by the second line. To govern: "conduct the policy, actions, and affairs of (a state, organization, or people)." Congress does not "govern" aka enact the policies. The legislature creates the policies by which the executive governs. Hence, when you state that "The legislative branch is a bunch of giant fucking pussies who are incapable of governing" you are either misunderstanding what it means to govern, or you don't understand what it means to legislate. So there's no contradiction. Merely an emphasis that the executive, by nature, is supposed to be able to act, swiftly and decisively. The legislature, by contrast, is designed to work slow and with great deliberation, lest they pass legislation that will grant the Executive (aka governing body) the power to cause undue harm to the people.

The gun issue is complex and there is no appetite to solve it politically. A handgun ban would go A LONG way to solving gun violence. That will never happen here and we all know it.

What would you propose?

I don't know if it's possible, but teaching citizens about concealed carry and how to use a gun would probably go a long way

Just like an alcohol ban and a drug ban solved those respective problems.

It worked in other countries, it just isn't politically viable.

I'd support that but it'd have a pretty minimal effect on gun deaths I think.

Would it though? How many crimes have been averted due to a drawn weapon, or a weapon holstered at the side of the prospective victim?

While it's correct that the overwhelming majority of gun crime and indeed even mass shootings are carried out with handguns, it's never been demonstrated that removing their presence will reduce gun crime.

If anything, the highly restrictive laws of Chicago have shown us the complete opposite.

I'm also mildly curious on a reply from though. Typically foreign responses want to point to other nations and aren't much use. But if he can pull examples of ban effectiveness from within the US itself, the response could be interesting.
