Democrats looking at this as a loss in the Senate and House is a good thing... maybe they'll make some corrections.

But at the end of the day Trump is out. Biden might be on track to win by 306-232, like Trump did in 2016. And Democrats held the house. That's good enough.

The way I look at this election is that Trump committed a multitude of GIGANTIC blunders and it still took a once-in-a-century pandemic and an unprecedented propaganda effort for Democrats to defeat him by a razor thin margin.

Democrats underperformed expectations in all races, for the presidency, for the house, particularly for the senate, and also in the races for control over state legislatures and redistricting.
They barely achieved their primary objective (oust Trump), but failed to achieve any of their other goals.

It should also be noted that the tipping point state will end up being Wisconsin or Arizona, where Biden's lead will be in the range of 20k votes (if he even holds AZ at all, Trump still has a small chance to win it, not that it matters at this point).

I mean... they didnt lose THAT many seats, and most of them were in medium- to deep-red turf. They got to their previous mark in a D+8.6 year, this year shapes up to be D+4 or D+5. Some losses had to be expected.

More interesting is their underperformance in the Senate. With a Biden midterm and then the super lopsided map coming up next, I dont expect Democrats to win back the Senate until 2028 at the absolute earliest.

eh they spent over 150M to try to unseat Lindsey and Mitch lol, that was a pipe dream. Then add in all the money spent on NC and MI senate for instance. Never want to hear lefties complaining about money in politics ever again.

I doubt a lot of Trump supporters will go out in droves to vote for spineless gop politicians in 2022, especially the ones that will attempt to ‘wash their hands’ of Trump if he does lose even though they road his coattails over the past 4 years. could be wrong but even with a lopsided map i could see enough sitting those out. who knows a lot changes in a year or two

Exactly. They spent $300 million just trying to unseat Lindsay Graham, Susan Collins & Cocaine Mitch. All three were re-elected.

And Trump spent how much trying to get reelected? Over a billion? All of it is a waste of $$ tbh.

If you have the money, you try your hardest to run up the score as much as possible. One of Biden's last campaign stops was Ohio, how'd that work out for him?

The problem is that they needed some enthusiasm from the liberal and progressive wing of the party to win this election. Going all-in on the center would not have worked imho. The Democrats needed to hold together an overextended, bloated coalition whose lowest and only common denominator was "Trump has to go". Ben Shapiro made a good point about this yesterday:

Spot on. Frankly, I think both sides have some serious issues with their coalitions. Without Trump rallying the base, what's going to happen to the GOP? Likewise, without Trump, what's going to motivate the Left?

we can go back to snoozer elections like in 1996 or 2004, hopefully without any war escalations.
