Democrats need a new platform. The moderates are getting ready to lynch Pelosi for losing seats.

I mean... they didnt lose THAT many seats, and most of them were in medium- to deep-red turf. They got to their previous mark in a D+8.6 year, this year shapes up to be D+4 or D+5. Some losses had to be expected.

More interesting is their underperformance in the Senate. With a Biden midterm and then the super lopsided map coming up next, I dont expect Democrats to win back the Senate until 2028 at the absolute earliest.

We should compare against expectations. They went into the election with the belief that they were going to add seats, and they sank enormous resources into winning races that they clearly had no realistic shot at winning.

The House Democrat conference call was apparently a disaster. Moderate Dems are (probably rightly) blaming Pelosi and the liberal wing for losing seats.

Exactly. They spent $300 million just trying to unseat Lindsay Graham, Susan Collins & Cocaine Mitch. All three were re-elected.

Democrats looking at this as a loss in the Senate and House is a good thing... maybe they'll make some corrections.

But at the end of the day Trump is out. Biden might be on track to win by 306-232, like Trump did in 2016. And Democrats held the house. That's good enough.

The problem is that they needed some enthusiasm from the liberal and progressive wing of the party to win this election. Going all-in on the center would not have worked imho. The Democrats needed to hold together an overextended, bloated coalition whose lowest and only common denominator was "Trump has to go". Ben Shapiro made a good point about this yesterday:
