when u drop a stretched out slinky the bottom stays in place, until the top catches up, then it all falls.
card used this as "evidence" gravity is a lie.
Me, Santa, and surf then explained that slinkys are a spring, and the bottom stays in place due to internal tension. once that tension is relieved, as the helical spring is finally compacted, it all falls.
he then used an embarrassingly regressive "definition" for what a spring was, which only included tension springs.
so we again explained that there are many spring types, tension, torsion, helical, leaf, etc.
he again dug in, claiming things like springs can only be metal, they have to "have a mechanical purpose" and said a slinky was just a toy, etc.
well eventually he posted a source of "mechanical springs" to "disprove us", and in the description of helical spring, DING DING, was a slinky.
in a fit of shame he then claimed NASA made the website, and he was tricked. and he devolved into so many crass insults that he was suspended for 3-6 months.
The sheer stupidity in that thread was astounding. So many simultaneous LOLs and facepalms. That was one of the fLaT eArTh threads, wasn't it?
