Kind of interesting that the CV seemed to hit the mostly Democratic states... first. Aka, NY, Cali, Washington, etc.

That's really easy to explain: the Democrats are the party of the big cities. A virus spreads more easily in densely populated places, i.e. cities. And a disease coming from abroad will first appear in places with airports or large degrees of international travel, i.e. big cities.
