A .22 report isn't remotely in the same ballpark as a .223/5.56. Yes, a .223 is "only" 1% greater in diameter, but 38% more mass (typical 40gr vs 55gr bullets) and 10 TIMES more energy (typically ~128 ft/lb vs ~1282 ft/lb). All 13 reports were of higher powered rifles than a .22. People who compare .22 to .223 are either dishonest or stupid.

I'd take Britain any day. Lower murder rates than the 30 biggest US cities.

You're falling for small sample effects here. Add one assassination of a UK PM or remove one assassination of a US president and this entire comparison looks completely different.
Also, the UK might be a favorably chosen reference point. There were plenty of assassinations and assassination attempts against political leaders in Japan, France, Germany, Turkey, Israel and many other places.
