I think the point he was trying to make is the following: "if someone is scared of getting covid, it is his personal responsibility to self-isolate in his home and never set a foot outside again until we have a vaccine or herd immunity - and if he does step outside, then that was his personal choice and he has no one else but himself to blame if he catches covid". Which of course is a fucking stupid and selfish opinion.

In the United States it's been framed as herd immunity vs lockdowns because the current administration has totally botched the response. In reality if we had implemented social distancing early, implemented contact tracing, had mandatory mask orders, and several other things we probably could have avoided locking down in all but the most frequently traveled areas (NYC was always fucked, literally nothing could have been done there)

People at high risk of death should be provided the means to quarantine. Most people are not at high risk of death.
