Too early to tell imo.

In any event, I believe the Boris bullet was played far too late. He should have been in right after Cameron. If he'd have called a general election, the tory party would have crushed Labour, he'd have sucked up all the UKIP voters and would be sitting comfortably from a workable majority. He might not be the right person for THE job, but he's the right person for THIS job.

Right now he's got 90 odd days to change something that isn't changeable, convince people that can't be convinced or impossibly shut down government and force through something that very few people want.

The core of your issues is neither the British people nor the Commons can agree on what they actually want. The country is still deeply split between two irreconcilable positions.

The true task for a PM in such a situation would have been to steer the public discourse, try to bridge the gap and help find a compromise that at least a slim majority of the country can get behind. May completely failed at this task, and tbh I dont think that Johnson will do much better.

To protect its satellites, France outlines ambitious space-weapons program

After French President Emmanuel Macron called for a space high command to protect his nation's satellites earlier this month, military officials on Thursday released their plans in more detail.

As reported in the French financial newspaper Les Echos, the French Defense Minister, Florence Parly, outlined a new space weapons program that would allow the country to move from space surveillance to the active protection of its satellites.

"France is not embarking on a space arms race," Parly said, according to the publication. However, the projects outlined Thursday by French officials include swarms of nano-satellites that would patrol a few kilometers around French satellites, a ground-based laser system to blind snooping satellites, and perhaps even machine guns on board some satellites.

Trump threatens retaliation against France over digital service tax

US President Donald Trump is threatening to retaliate after French President Emmanuel Macron signed legislation imposing a 3% tax on digital transactions.

"France just put a digital tax on our great American technology companies," Trump tweeted. "If anybody taxes them, it should be their home Country, the USA."

The new French tax isn't specific to American companies, but it is designed to target big companies in general—and the world's big technology companies are disproportionately based in the United States.

Yeah, really is outrageous not letting these multi-billion companies avoid tax all over the place whilst out pricing any local, full tax paying competitor.

Meanwhile, in Germany:

"This morning, a mother and her 8-year old son were pushed onto the rails in front of an incoming train at Frankfurt Central Station. The woman was able to escape, but the boy was run over by the train and died on the spot.
Multiple bystanders overpowered the suspect and held him in place until the police arrived and took the 40-year old man of Eritrean descent into custody. Eyewitnesses said the man had tried to push even more people onto the rails."

Thanks, Merkel.

Which stretch? An Etritrean killed an 8-year old boy. 95% or more of all Eritreans currently living in Germany came here as asylum seekers since 2015. So the probability is very very high that this man would not have been in the country, and the boy thus still alive, if it hadnt been for Merkel's migration policies.
